Mr Prabhat R. Pati

Prabhat R. Pati is a Power Sector professional with over 35 years of experience in various areas of power systems, viz, O&M of Hydro Power Plant, HVDC Stations; Implementation of Transmission Projects; Consultancy Project Management; Project Planning, Scheduling, Monitoring & co-ordination for Transmission Projects; Co-ordination for Budget, MoU, Capitalization including Multilateral Funding and Government agencies.

Having done his graduation in Electrical Engg. from University College of Engineering, Sambalpur University, Odisha in 1985, he started his career with Odisha State Electricity Board as an O&M Engineer in the State owned Hirakud HEP and subsequently worked for NHPC and thereafter got absorbed in POWERGRID in 1991. He was working as Station-In-charge of Kuruskhetra HVDC Station when he was nominated by POWERGRID to discharge responsibilities as CEO of Cross Border Power Transmission Company Limited (CPTC) in September 2021.

As Corporate bottom-line executive for project implementation, he has co-ordinated for successful execution of many a generation linked and strengthening transmission projects in Eastern & North Eastern region apart from mega 800kV HVDC Projects.  He had earlier been part of the project management team of 1st turnkey consultancy project of POWERGRID executed for WBPDCL, provided project management services for the 1st transmission project implemented through joint Public Private Participation mode (Tala Transmission System, a 49:51 JV with M/s Tata Power).  The +/- 800kV Biswanath Chariyali – Alipurduar – Agra HVDC Project, the 1st 800kV DC project in India and biggest multi-terminal project in the world, was successfully implemented under his coordination from Corporate.  He was similarly associated with mega Raigarh – Pugalur – Thrissur HVDC Project.  The 1st phase of 800kV Champa – Kurukshetra HVDC project was planned, scheduled and monitored for implementation under his corporate tenure when he was assigned the balance implementation for 2nd phase of the project as Site-In-Charge of Kurukshetra station in 2018.

POWERGRID entered into a phase of massive capital investment during 11th & 12th plan period (Rs. 1,65,000 crores) which involved concerted planning, co-ordination for CERC regulatory approvals and tariff petition, budget control, Ministry and funding agency co-ordinations.  These were successfully co-ordinated with him acting as the key functionary, paving the way for POWERGRID to earn the coveted Maharatna status in 2019.

With his vast and vide exposure in areas of project implementation, management corporate co-ordination, he hopes to bring into focus the necessary collaborative and managerial expertise to make CPTC a more tranparent, efficient, result-oriented and expanding enterprise to the satisfaction of all its stakeholders.
